WWRC's Vocational Training Department employs full-time, classified administrative, instructional, and support staff to fulfill its mission and operate its training and workforce education and support programs, with approved hourly/wage instructor and instructional aide positions to supplement staffing, as needed, within budgetary parameters.  The Vocational Training Department complies with the Center's governance on Employee Recruitment, Selection, and Hire and applies Virginia Department of Education Licensure Regulations and Standards to ensure relevant, current, and verifiable staff qualifications, as documented in written position Employee Work Profiles (EWPs)/Job Descriptions (J.D.).  All full and part-time administrative and instructional staff members possess post-secondary education credentials in combination and/or relevant experience and demonstrated competencies appropriate to their area(s) of responsibility.  Instructional and administrative support staff members possess education credentials and/or experience and demonstrated competencies appropriate to their areas of responsibility.   

 

Note:  Effective July 1, 2015, teachers seeking initial licensure with an endorsement in an area of career and technical education must have an industry-recognized credential in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement  If a teacher seeking an initial license in the Commonwealth has not attained an industry certification credential in the area in which the teacher seeks endorsement, the Board of Education may, upon request of the employing school division or educational agency, issue the teacher a provisional license to allow time for the teacher to attain such credentials.


Vocational Training Administrators and Full-Time Instructors are required to hold a valid and current Virginia License, as a condition of hire and position role/function, must maintain their licensure in good standing and are subject to all requirements as published in the Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual and as directed by the Virginia Department of Education.  The CWDD Director serves as the liaison with the Virginia Department of Education for licensure and recertification business processes and communications.    The assigned Vocational Training Administrator serves as the employee's advisor and the Career and Workforce Development Division (CWDD) Director serves as the Superintendent designee for purposes of teacher licensure and recertification signatory authority.   The Vocational Training Administrator and/or CWDD Director and employee may consult with DARS team members to ensure verifiable and accurate documentation of required professional development activities through the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center. 

 

The Vocational Training Department schedules in-service and professional development days into its annual calendar to allow intentional time for industry visits, required trainings, departmental strategic planning, curriculum development, and other professional development activities without needing student coverage.
